The History

Mick Sawtell Electrical was started by my father in 2002. He made the brave choice to go out on his own after working for the same company since he started his apprenticeship. My Dad had a great reputation not only for his work but also his kind nature—he was friends with everyone. I was still in high school the year the business was founded, and as the business started to grow, I would help every afternoon in the office. My father and I worked side by side for years and I learnt everything I know from him. This included both electrical knowledge and the administration side of the business. He had the tendency to hoard paperwork as he was somewhat of a perfectionist but as knowledge grew, I started to steal work from him and send it to customers quickly to keep things moving.

Eventually, his reluctance to delegate gave way as he realised that I was more than capable of running the office side of things. He had trained me to do exactly what was required, in the process making his job in the office redundant. In 2011 Dad was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive cancer and was told that his time was limited. He decided to take the time he had left to spend with family and friends. He passed away in January 2012.

Since then, because of what I learned working side by side with Dad, Mick Sawtell Electrical has continued to offer personal service along with quality workmanship. We have focused on streamlining the business across every area. My husband, Wal, has also joined the team bringing with him additional expertise and stability. This, along with building an excellent team of technicians, apprentices, estimators and office staff has provided us with a strong foundation in which to serve the people of Lismore and beyond.
